Getting started with Sketch2Space
This guide takes you from a floor plan sketch to an editable 3D model in a few minutes. You don't need any CAD experience — upload a picture of your plan and Sketch2Space does the drawing for you.
What you'll need#
- A floor plan sketch as an image (JPG or PNG) or a PDF. Hand-drawn, a marketing brochure, or a clean CAD drawing all work.
- A free Sketch2Space account.
Clearer input gives a better model. A straight-on photo or scan with readable walls beats a blurry, angled photo. See tips for the best results.
Convert your first sketch#
- Create an account and open the app. Sign up free, then open your dashboard.
- Create a project and upload your sketch. Drag in your image or PDF, or click to browse.
- Let the AI read your plan. Sketch2Space works in two stages — first it finds the structure (rooms, walls, doors, windows, stairs), then it builds a realistic 3D preview.
- Review and adjust. Walk around the 3D model and adjust anything that looks off.
- Export your model. Download a
.dae(CAD) file ready for SketchUp, Blender, and other tools. See Export to CAD.
How the two stages work#
Sketch2Space builds your model in two passes so you can catch problems early:
- Structure — the AI extracts the floor plan: rooms, walls, doors, windows, and stairs. This is the single source of truth for your model's shape.
- Realistic — the same model with realistic materials and lighting for a clean preview, plus CAD export.
Edits you make in either view are saved back to the structure, so both views always match.
