Floor Plan Insights: Find Door Problems in 3D
Sketch2Space now checks the doors in your floor plan for you. Problems show up as small markers floating over the 3D model, so you can spot a door that hits a wall or blocks a hallway before anything is built.
What shipped#
- Markers over the problems. A red marker means a sure problem, a yellow one a possible problem. Point at a marker to open it and read what's wrong. Move away and it folds back. On a phone, tap it.
- Door checks. Each door is checked for:
- a wall that stops it before it opens all the way
- two doors that hit each other
- furniture in its way, or standing right in front of it
- an open door that stands in front of another door, or leaves too little room to walk past
- a door that may be too narrow for the room it leads into
- a bathroom that opens straight into the kitchen or living room
- an outside door that faces the strong sun with nothing above it to shade it
When opening a door the other way, or with its hinge on the other side, would fix the problem, the details say so.
- See why. Each marker has a See why button. It opens the full story in the Ask AI panel: what's wrong, why it matters and how to fix it.
- Problem counts in the floor list. Each floor in the Floors list shows how many problems it has, red for sure and yellow for possible. On a phone, each round floor button shows one count.
- Problems on every floor. In a building with several floors, markers show for the floors you aren't editing too. A marker on a lower floor says On a lower floor. Click it to spread the floors apart; See why takes you to that floor.
- Set north. The source sketch has a new North button that shows which way north is. Click it to check it or fix it: turn the compass until its red needle matches the north arrow on your drawing, then save. The arrows and the "turned" number help you line it up. North counts for every floor of the building, so you set it once.
Why it matters#
A door that can't open fully or a hallway it closes off is cheap to fix on paper and costly after the build. The checks run on the model you already have, with no extra steps. North matters too: it decides which doors face the sun, and Ask AI uses it too. See turn a sketch into a 3D model for how the model is made.
How to use it#
- Open a project whose 3D model is ready (see getting started).
- Look for the red and yellow markers over the model, or the counts next to each floor in the Floors list.
- Point at a marker (tap on a phone) to read the problem.
- Click See why for the details.
- If the sketch shows Set north in yellow, the app couldn't find north on your drawing. Click it and set north yourself.
Floor plan insight markers
The 3D model with a red and a yellow marker over two doors, one opened to show "Issue found" and the See why button, and the problem counts beside the floors in the Floors list.
Set north window
The Set north window: the sketch with its north arrow, the large compass turned to match it, and the "Turned 25° to the right" readout.
Who can see the details#
Every plan shows where the problems are. The full details behind See why come with the Ex10ded plan, on every floor. On the free and 5 as you go plans you can unlock one floor's details for $5, and they stay unlocked for good. See pricing.
FAQ#
Which problems does it find?#
For now it checks doors: how they open, what they hit, what they block, how wide they are and which way they face. More checks are on the way.
What does a yellow marker mean?#
It's a possible problem. It depends on things the model may not show, like furniture you haven't placed, so check it against your plans.
Why does it ask me to set north?#
The app looks for the north arrow on your sketch. If it can't find one, it takes the top of the sketch as north and the North button turns yellow. Set it once and it counts for every floor. You can ask about it with Ask AI.
Does it work on buildings with several floors?#
Yes. Every floor is checked, and the counts in the floor list show which floor needs a look. See buildings with several floors.
